-For survival cooking, each squad is to bring their own food. NO instant noodles is allowed. And to bring some materials to decorate the AVA room for Oscar night.

GB Fortnight Collections

All girls are to bring their GB Fortnight cards and collections on Tuesday 26th July. Please follow the instructions below:

1) Total up the amount on each card and write it in the space given on the back of the card
2) Try to reduce the number of coins you hand in. Replace coins with notes when possible.
3) All money should be placed in envelopes or ziplock bags that can be closed securely.

As much as possible, try to hand in your donation card and collections between 700am and 710am so that you don't have to carry the cash around during school hours. Hand in to your squad leaders.

Yakkum Centre has received the paper cranes we folded during our November camp. They had their Christmas party yesterday and Dr Maria, the lady in charge of the centre, wrote the following email to thank all of you:

GB international badge

1. What is the ICGB conference about?

In brief, ICGB is an international conference where officers from different countries gather together to work and to play. (Refer to the activities below)

2. What activities are carried out during the conference?

There are business meetings where the international council discussed about serious stuffs. For example: the annual general meeting (AGM) of the Girls’ Brigade International Council. There is also an election of the new International president of GB and appointment of international treasurer.

There are also reports by the different fellowships. So you hear about GB works in the various fellowships/countries. It is really encouraging to listen to their stories and how God is working in GB!

We also had fun-time! There was a songs and dance night where you see the different cultural songs and dance. How about imagine the Africans singing and dancing and inviting you to joining them? There was also a games night by different fellowships. We had a great time learning new games.

3. What did you learn during the conference? Do you think the conference is useful?

This 1 week in ICGB, I have learnt a lot during this conference. Like what I mention above, learning games that I can bring back to company to teach my girls is useful.

It is also definitely helpful to widen my perspective. It has allowed me to see GB beyond Singapore, beyond Asia context to the international level.

I learn to have an open mind and heart, to see with a different lens rather than my own cultural lens. It can be frustrating sometimes but it is also our differences that make each and every one unique and makes the interactions/relationship interesting and memorable.

It is like seeing the world gathering together. It is just amazing how we may be different but all works towards a common goal. So an important learning is to focus on similarities than on differences.

4. Did you enjoy the conference, and why?

Yup, I enjoyed the conference very much. There are times of learning and time for fun. I have also got the opportunity to know officers and young leaders from various countries. I also have the privilege to spend time together with GB Singapore leadership team.

I enjoyed the time of praise and worship. It is like seeing the “world” praising God Almighty, worshiping God together in one voice, standing in awe of Him and dwelling in His presence is just beyond descriptions.

5. What are your opinions about GB as an International Organization after going to the conference?

I always know that GB as an international organization is just head knowledge. It does not weight much till I gone for this conference. I would say it is really a privilege to be able to experience it. What it really means to me is that GB Singapore is not a stand alone organization but has a family of fellow GB from the various fellowships.

It is also how GB grows internationally. GB is not inward but always looking in areas to serve the community especially girls and women ministry in other countries. The theme of “cross over and move on” encourages me to look outside my areas of service.

6. How are you able to juggle between your personal life and GB?

It is amazing how God give you the Time management. It is important to be able to have a balance life. There is a time for work, a time for family, a time with God, a time with friends and a time for GB. It is just TRUSTING God to do our best with what we have. We are all given 24 hours. Definitely there are times where I just have to priorities and sacrifice one for another.

God is also able to so call “multiply my time”. By your own strength, you know a given task would take you for example 2 days to complete. With God’s help, I may only take 6 hours to complete. So…God does wonders and I am always amazed by what God can do through me.

7. How did you come to know of GB and why do you want to contribute to GB ?

I came to know GB through one of the appeal made in my school hall when I was in primary 3. I like the navy blue uniform at first. Later, I have fun, enjoyed the activities and come to know Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I continue joining GB in my secondary school.

Because I have benefited a lot from GB and found Jesus in my life, I want to share so that others may benefit and to know God.

It is like an adventure with God. It’s experiential! When I focus on my weakness, God showed me how strong He was. When I find myself lost, God leads and showed me the way. When I am confused, He guides me. When I cry, He comforts me. When I found joy, He celebrated with me. When situations seem so wrong and gloomy, He gives Hope. When I am in lack of something, He provided. When I am frustrated, He grants me peace…. And many more…

I see opportunities every time there are challenges/tasks/responsibilities place in front of me. It is like God is inviting me to join in the adventure. But it is hard to answer. I am still learning not to see what I can do or what I am good at, but learning to ask how big my God is? Can I trust Him in this?

Through service in GB, life is no longer boring and predictable. It has also brings me closer to God when I trust and obey.

Scenario 1: Gossiping Amongst Friends
You are with a group of friends and they start to gossip about your best friend, who is not around. What should you do? What qualities of a friend are relevant in this situation?

Scenario 2: A friend who loves to interrupt and dominate the conversation
Each time you try to tell your friend something e.g. what happened during the week, she interrupts constantly and tries to change the topic / tries to tell you about her week. You feel irritated. How would you handle this situation?

Scenario 3: Selfish Friends
You and a few friends have come to realize that a particular person in your friendship circle has been very selfish. This person frequently demands that plans be made to suit her, and she is not willing to share her knowledge / class notes with the rest, even though the rest of you are very willing to help one another, and on a few occasions, have coached her in her work.

Groups are to prepare their skit ( 5 mins or less) and explain how their responses show the qualities of a good friend.

GB Fun Competition

On 5th June, our girls entered the GB Fun Competition!

So.. what did we cook?

Here they are!

The conditions are : Steamed egg, rice, chicken, and finishing up everything that was given, in 75mins with 16 solid fuels.

Our steamed egg and rice turned out well, and our secondary dishes is a plate of mixed vegetables, and another plate of fried chicken fillet. Everything turned out yummy and we thank God that no accidents happened with the knife or fire and we managed to complete our challenge even though it rained suddenly while the competition was starting.

We finished almost everything! :P

Please report in the Outside Conference Room (Level 1, Near Speaker's Corner) on Monday, 13th July 2009 at 7.45am in Full-Uniform. To bring along Hairclips and Safety Pins.

- Squad leaders to conduct attire check and release girls to report to class 8.20am.
- Sec 4s and 5s are to attend their Monday Morning Programme and are not expected to report for attire check. We trust you to be able to wear the uniform well on your own as you have been in the Brigade for at least 4 years.

Attire check will be conducted. Do remember to cut your finger nails, polish your boots, uniform must be ironed and hair must be bun-ed up. Girls with Short hair should wear a hair net.

Girls who are late will be punished. Please note that attendance is compulsory.

A) Sergeants' Weekend

Date: 5th and 6th June 2009 (Friday and Saturday)

B) Corporals' Camp (South)

Dates: 13th to 15th June 2009 (Saturday to Monday)
Venue: St. Margaret’s Sec School
* Packing list will be given to you via email.
* As this is a TRAINING CAMP, please be prepared and put on your positive attitude.
* All Corporals will be taking the Drill Stage 2 test during the Camp. Please start practising!
* All Girls to bring 2 rag cloths.
* NDP Girls will be ferried from St Margaret's to GBHQ and must turn up for camp with the rest.
* All pick-up (7.20am) & drop-off will be at Henderson Sec Sch.

C) Boot Camp

Venue: AVA Room
Things to bring: Notebook, Stationary and Jacket (if you think you will feel cold)

Fall-in at 2.10pm in front of the AVA room. Ms Pang will meet you there.

All Sec 1s are to attend. It is COMPULSORY. Sec 2s who have not earned their total defence badge are to be there as well.

This is a combined uniformed group event and you will be representing GB on that day. Be on your best behaviour e.g. pay attention, stay alert, do all work assigned and ask intelligent questions.

- Swimming Attire (if you are swimming)

Allocation of Duties
- Sec 1s: Salad (Can be fruit, vegetable, or potato salad), Drinks (concentrated syrup)
- Sec 2s: Sausages, Crabsticks , Plates, Cups, Forks and Spoons, Napkins, Satay Sticks
- Sec 3s: Garlic Bread, Marshmellows
- Sec 4s and 5s: Dessert

Each level is to send one representative to collect $25 on Thursday from Ms Pang to buy whatever you need. Collect all receipts so that we know how much change to get back, or how much you need to claim.

Each level is to confirm the number of people coming by Wednesday so that we know how much food to buy!
